Dog-friendly Cabin Getaways – I love a unique lodging concept and it makes it to the top of my list when it’s dog friendly. So the team and I packed up the car and retreated to Getaway Big Bear in January for a New Year’s detox.

Getaway is all about carving out more time for leisure time. With many locations just a short drive from major cities, Getaway’s tiny cabins are a window into nature, providing time and space to rest and disconnect for the whole family – even the furries.

Getaway Big Bear is located in Running Springs, California, just 2 hours from Los Angeles. This outpost offers stunning views of the San Bernardino Mountains and countless scenic spots to explore around Big Bear Lake. On site, you’ll find an extensive 1-mile hiking trail that winds through a natural landscape of cedar, oak, and eucalyptus, and a tranquil lake where herds of deer often appear.

It is not common for bears to be in this area, but if they do, they are probably black bears that are easily spooked. We didn’t see any wildlife during our 2 night stay, but it’s always good to be aware of safety rules to ensure you don’t attract wildlife – such as keeping food outside or in your car.

You can visit the website to check availability at your desired location and use HELLORUBY for $25 off your booking. This code can also be combined with other offers. Inside the small cabin is everything you need and nothing you don’t. You can sleep soundly on a queen bed (or queen bunk bed) with the most comfortable pillows. The small house is equipped with air conditioning and heating, a landline phone by the bed and a large window so that nature is always in sight. There are window shades that you can close whenever you want a little more privacy or when it gets dark. There is also no Wi-Fi at the property, but we had cell service.

Cooking your favorite camp meals is easy with the cabin’s kitchenette featuring a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, dishes, pots, bowls, and dog treats, plus coffee and tea (for a small fee). And you don’t have to worry about dark night treks to a separate bath house, because your little cabin is equipped with a full private bathroom.

Aside from the comfort, I was impressed with the layout of the cabin. You want to pack light, but there is a place to put everything like coats, leashes, shoes and suitcases. If you prefer to sleep with several layers of bedding, I recommend bringing a blanket.

Each cabin has two parking spaces, a fire pit set up with grills, a picnic table and chairs, a leash for your dog, plus firewood or charcoal and a stove for purchase. Each cabin area is spread throughout the property to ensure a peaceful and tranquil environment for all guests, with their neighbors barely visible.
